- What Is Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)?
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a medical treatment designed to restore optimal hormone levels in the body. For men, this most commonly involves addressing low testosterone, but may also include thyroid or other metabolic imbalances that affect energy, mood, sleep, muscle mass, and overall performance.
- Low energy or fatigue
- Decreased libido or sexual performance
- Poor sleep or irritability
- Brain fog or mood changes
- Loss of strength or muscle mass
To determine if you are a candidate, you’ll meet with one of our trained practitioners who specializes in hormone balance. We review your medical history, symptoms, lifestyle, and advanced lab work to create a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan.

Low Testosterone in Men
On average, men lose about 1% of their testosterone each year after age 30. While aging plays a role, low testosterone (Low T) can occur for many reasons—and many men don’t realize their symptoms are hormone-related.
Low testosterone (hypogonadism) falls into two categories:
Primary Hypogonadism
Occurs when the testes do not produce adequate testosterone. Causes may include:
- Congenital conditions (such as Klinefelter syndrome)
- Testicular injury
- Prior anabolic steroid use
- Certain tumors or medical treatments
Secondary Hypogonadism
Occurs when signaling from the pituitary gland is impaired. Common causes include:
- Chronic illness or kidney disease
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Obesity
- Chronic alcohol use
- Liver disease
Age-related low testosterone is often referred to as late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) and is more common in men who are overweight or metabolically unhealthy.
Low testosterone can affect nearly every system in the body. Common symptoms include:
- Low sex drive
- Erectile dysfunction (ED)
- Increased body fat
- Decreased muscle mass and strength
- Mood swings or depressed mood
- Memory issues or cognitive decline
- Hot flashes
- Gynecomastia (enlarged breast tissue)
Rather than treating “normal ranges” alone, we focus on optimal hormone levels. Research demonstrates that testosterone levels below certain thresholds are associated with increased risk of:
- Metabolic syndrome
- Coronary heart disease
- Osteoporosis
- Erectile dysfunction
- Depression and fatigue
- Decreased longevity
- Alzheimer’s Disease
Our goal is to restore testosterone safely into an optimal, physiological range—not just barely normal.
Long-Term Health Risks of Untreated Low Testosterone
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a medical treatment designed to restore optimal hormone levels in the body. For men, this most commonly involves addressing low testosterone, but may also include thyroid or other metabolic imbalances that affect energy, mood, sleep, muscle mass, and overall performance.
- Weight gain and metabolic syndrome
- Type 2 diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease
- Loss of bone density and osteoporosis
- Decreased exercise capacity and muscle wasting
Clinical data also shows that lower testosterone levels are associated with increased disease risk and mortality, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, and cognitive decline
- Hormone Therapy Delivery Methods
There are several ways to deliver testosterone, including creams, injections, and pellets. Your practitioner will review all options and recommend what best fits your health goals and lifestyle.
- Pellet Therapy: Our Gold Standard
At Alternative Therapy MD, pellet therapy is our primary and preferred method for male hormone optimization.
Pellets are bioidentical hormones placed just beneath the skin during a quick in-office procedure. Like your body’s natural hormone production, pellets provide a steady, consistent release of testosterone over time.
Multiple membership tiers are available depending on your needs and lifestyle goals — we’ll help you choose the one that’s right for you during your consultation.
- Why Pellets?
- Consistent hormone delivery (no peaks and crashes)
- Long-lasting results (typically 3–6 months)
- No daily creams or frequent injections
- Improved symptom control and compliance
- Loss of strength or muscle mass
Pellet duration depends on factors such as dosing, activity level, metabolism, and cardiac output.
The Alternative Therapy MD Difference
Exercise Physiology & Nutrition Support
Optimizing Hormones Through Movement & Fuel
At Alternative Therapy MD, hormone optimization goes far beyond prescriptions. Exercise physiology and targeted nutrition are foundational to how male hormones—especially testosterone—are produced, utilized, and maintained over time.
As testosterone, thyroid hormones, and metabolic function shift with age, stress, and lifestyle factors, men often experience changes in energy, body composition, strength, and recovery. Overtraining, inadequate fueling, poor sleep, or chronic stress can suppress testosterone levels and increase cortisol—leading to fatigue, muscle loss, increased body fat, and reduced performance.
Our practitioners provide individualized movement and nutrition guidance designed to support testosterone optimization, metabolic efficiency, and long-term vitality. Recommendations are informed by lab data, symptom patterns, and SECA body composition analysis, ensuring your plan supports lean muscle mass, bone density, insulin sensitivity, and cardiovascular health.
Your Personalized Plan May Include
- Strength training guidance to support lean muscle mass, metabolic health, and long-term weight maintenance
- Cardiovascular recommendations aligned with energy levels and recovery capacity
- Recovery and stress-management strategies to optimize sleep, nervous system balance, and hormone regulation
- Nutrition strategies focused on adequate protein intake, micronutrient support, blood sugar balance, and inflammation reduction
By aligning hormones, movement, and nutrition, we help men build strength, resilience, and sustained energy—supporting performance, longevity, and overall health rather than short-term symptom relief alone.
Our goal is not only to help you feel better now—but to protect your health, strength, and vitality for years to come.
